2009 Acura TL

The All-New 2009 Acura TL

The redesigned 2009 Acura TL will arrive in showrooms this fall. The luxury sedan will be available in two distinctive versions including the first ever application of Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) on the TL.  The TL will continue Acura?s new design language seen on the redesigned TSX and RL, featuring a bold front grille treatment. The TL?s interior is less controversial and features several arches in its design language.

The new TL will be available in two models: a base front-wheel drive car and an up-level all-wheel drive model. The front wheel drive model will be powered by a 280 horsepower 3.5L V6 whereas the AWD model will receive its motivation from a 3.7L V6 producing 305 horsepower. Both models will use a five-speed automatic transmission.

As before, the 2009 Acura TL continues to provide an extensive list of electronic convenience items, now including a central multifunction display, an eight-speaker audio system with a six-disc CD changer, XM Satellite Radio and USB port connectivity for hooking up your ipod or other digital devices. An Acura/ELS audio system with 10 speakers, surround-sound and DVD-A compatibility is also available.

The TL's interior has been redesigned in a twin-cockpit style for the front seat occupants, with metal trim that twists and curves as it wraps around from door to dash to console.  These comfortable seats embrace you with deep side bolsters, enhancing the wraparound feeling. Both front seats are power, with memory for the driver's side, and seat heaters are included. Leather is still standard, and a upgraded "Milano" leather is part of the technology package option. The dash is more stylized than before, and still easily readable. The quality of interior materials is very takes it to the next level.

Minor tuning changes push the SH-AWD's V6 to 305 hp at 6,200 rpm and 273 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm making this Acura's most powerful engine ever. None of the gear ratios have been changed compared to last year's transmission, although the all-wheel-drive model gets a shorter 4.53:1 final-drive to improve acceleration from the relatively heavy car. The TL uses the same Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive system as the RL, so it's able to vary power between the front and rear wheels as well as between the rear wheels themselves.  The SH-AWD model will also sport quad-exhaust and 18 inch wheels to differentiate it from lesser TL models.   Both versions of the TL feel plenty fast under full throttle. The TL SH-AWD is 0.3 second quicker from zero-to-60-mph than last year's TL Type-S.
