"Once you get in you just want to drive and drive and drive" one test
drivers had to say at an Acura VIP Preview event, where they were able
to test drive the Acura ILX. The new 2013 ILX has been available since
the end of May, and already the world is raving.
As Acura's new gateway vehicle, the ILX fills a growing demand for a smaller, luxury vehicle. Those looking to fill this need have three powertrain options to choose from: the 2.0L, the performance-oriented 2.4L and the 1.5L Hybrid, which is Acura's first gas-electric model. The Acura ILX is based loosely on the Civic SI, but includes major differences such as a lower and wider body, a softer ride, Pandora internet radio, a faster steering ratio and vastly upgraded hardware. Thicker windows provide insulation and dynamic noise reduction. The ILX even has everyone's favorite- a power moonroof. The impression most test-drivers took away from the experience was that of security, saying "I felt very safe, which is my number one thing."
With gas prices fluctuating, a good balance of power and mileage is highly coveted and the ILX delivers just this, with an EPA-rated 24/35 fuel economy.1 Since its release on May 22nd, the reception of the ILX has been extremely positive. Automobile Magazine states that "the manual transmission is one of the best to come from Honda to date -- the clutch is perfectly weighted and boasts linear take-up." Even Autoweek raves about the ILX, saying that "Inside, the ILX is all luxury, with a supple steering wheel, soft-touch leather all around and seats that couple support and comfort. " With the Acura ILX is fitting perfectly into the niche that was created by other car companies, it's a difficult car not to notice on the road.
