The ACC is designed to work with the rest of your Acura's crash prevention system. In other words the ACC looks out for you by keeping a virtual eye out for potentially hazardous systems occurring on the road in front of you.
What Is Adaptive Cruise Control?
In simple terms the Acura ACC is the latest version of the traditional cruise control we have all come to depend on over the course of the last few decades. The traditional form of cruise control is used to set and maintain a preferred driving speed. However, other than establishing a minimum speed at which the standard cruise control can be turned on, it does nothing more than control your speed.
The Acura ACC system takes this concept one step further and makes using cruise control for those long trips just a little bit safer. This system is designed to automatically adjust your speed constantly in order to ensure you maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you in the same lane. Not only does the Acura ACC modulate the throttle setting in order to maintain a safe distance, this system can also apply the brakes as needed.
How Does Acura ACC Work?
All you have to do is use the steering wheel mounted controls to set the speed at which you wish to travel and the distance you want to have between you and the vehicle in front of you. After this, the ACC system takes over and relieves you of the responsibility. Speed sensors maintain the chosen speed and the radar sensors mounted behind the grille will ensure you stay the selected distance from the vehicle in front of you, it's that simple.
As an added benefit, your Acura equipped with ACC will also aid in the prevention of rear end collisions. If the vehicle in front of you comes to a complete stop the ACC will release the throttle and apply the brakes to slow you down very quickly. It will also flash a warning on the dashboard to let you know what's going on and tighten the seatbelts to help reduce the risk of injury.

With the Acura ACC system you can adjust your following distance using the range selection control. There are four settings, short, middle, long, and extra-long from which to choose. The radar sensors mounted in the grille can detect vehicles that are up to approximately 90 meters in front of you. This control is conveniently located on the steering wheel to further reduce the need to take your eyes of the road.
