The Acura RDX is a luxury SUV that will meet the needs of the discriminating buyer. It offers plenty of power, a user-friendly interior, and lots of standard amenities. A bolder, stiffer exterior, a new and more powerful engine, and plenty of add-ons to an already long list of standard features will THANplease all who inspect the new version. The bestselling Audi Q5 also returns for 2019, but don't expect much of a redesign. Audi has decided that the 2018 model will hold serve for another season, but prospective buyers will want to inspect the 2019 Acura RDX (Prototype) closely to see how it outpaces the Q5.
The 2018 RDX was one of the only compact crossovers fitted with a V6 engine. The new 2.0L DOHC turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine could possibly provide a very impressive 306 horsepower. The 10-speed automatic transmission means smooth shifting and rapid acceleration. The aptly named Super Handling All-Wheel Drive also returns for 2019, and most buyers will opt for this drivetrain choice. This torque-vectoring drivetrain gets thumbs-up from all corners. The 2019 Audi Q5 is built similarly to the outgoing 2018 model, with no changes to the powertrain. The engine is a four-cylinder, turbocharged inline similar to the engine found on the new model Acura RDX, but it produces only 252 horsepower, and a seven-speed automatic transmission is the only choice.
The 2019 Acura RDX (Prototype) offers a plateload of standard amenities and features. Real metals instead of faux plastics are an immediate eye-catcher. The front sport seats are 16-way power-adjustable. They're covered in Nappa leather and have full lumbar support. The ultra wide panoramic roof gives the passengers a sense of spaciousness. Standard features include ELS audio, navigation, and satellite radio, and Pandora Internet radio control. Two special packages are offered on the 2018 model, and they are expected to be available for the 2019 version as well. These are the AcuraWatch Plus and Technology packages. The 2019 Audi Q5 offers tri-zone automatic climate control and a wonderfully designed split-fold rear seat, but the front seats don't have the powered adjustability range offered by the RDX. There are plenty of driver aids on the Q5, but some of them are too sensitive and kick in when they shouldn't, causing unease for passengers.
Along with the interior features and engine performance, the 2019 Acura RDX (Prototype) has an equally high-quality chassis and frame. The new model is longer and wider than its predecessor, and the dragon tail rear and new-style tail lights are visually appealing. The chassis is stiffer than on last year's offering, and there's also a new multi-link rear suspension system. The 2019 Audi Q5 has been upgraded a bit in terms of interior amenities, but the exterior build and frame design hasn't been improved.
The new 2019 Acura RDX (Prototype) promises comfort, luxury, and good performance for drivers. Check out the 2018 models at Proctor Acura, and talk to us to learn more about the new 2019 model.
